We generally divide textile materials into two types: natural materials and chemical synthetic materials. As natural materials, there are cotton cloth (cotton denim, cotton canvas, etc.), silk, linen (flax, jute, hemp), animal fur, etc., and chemical materials generally come from petroleum extracts, which are more common. There are polyester, nylon, spandex, which is what we are familiar with like Jiaji cloth, Lycra cloth, polyester or nylon lace cloth. So how to distinguish whether a fabric is natural or artificial? Very simple, just a few steps to help you get it all done.
1. Touch the burnt residue to see whether it is powdery or viscous or scorched. The criterion for judging is that natural materials, such as silk and hemp products, have no irritating smell after being burned, and they are powdery when touched by hand after being burnt, and there is an odor similar to the meat we eat after being burnt. After being burned, the polyester, nylon, and spandex that are artificially extracted from petroleum will emit black smoke and have a strong pungent smell, which is obviously different from the textile fabrics of natural ingredients.
2. Carefully observe the texture and surface texture of the fabric, and feel the feel of the fabric with your hands.
3. Burn our fabric with a lighter, ask if there is any pungent smell, and see if there is any black smoke.
After all this is said, the most reliable test method is to go to the relevant testing agency to conduct a chemical composition test, then all the components of the fabric will be detected, and there will be no fakes. If the above-mentioned seeing, touching and burning can solve the fabric problem, it is suggested that we can use the testing method to give ourselves a clear understanding.
